UPMC Graduate Medical Education & Benefits

UPMC Graduate Medical Education (GME) program is the 4th largest in the nation and is committed to fostering a collegial atmosphere within its academic community. We draw upon the unique skills, knowledge, and life experiences of our diverse accomplished, and dedicated residents and fellows. We are well-known for a welcoming culture that expects excellence and provides strong support that enables each individual to achieve their life goals.

Our goal is to recruit, train, and keep the best doctors in a model of innovative patient-centered care.  A fundamental ethic of medicine is respect for each individual. Resident physicians are first and foremost learners, and their needs are the primary determinant of any assigned patient care activities. As learners, resident physicians are accorded high priority in fulfilling the demands of their educational program. They are afforded opportunities to meet personal and family obligations, to pursue recreational activities, and to obtain adequate rest.  At UPMC, a core commitment of our institution and program faculty is providing the best resident education experiences as we provide high-quality, safe patient care.

Located in vibrant and culturally diverse Pittsburgh and built upon a broad foundation of over 170 specialty programs, UPMC is a global enterprise poised at the frontiers of advanced clinical medicine, research, and medical education. We invite you to explore our programs and discover the many available opportunities to share our vision for a new tomorrow.

The Coalition of Residents and Fellows of Color (C-ROC) is an employee resource group, UPMC-wide, interdepartmental, focused on residents and fellows of colors who put an emphasis on trainees who are under-represented in medicine.  Please see our video for C-ROC initiatives at UPMC.
