Meet Our Faculty and Fellows

The Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (UPRS) is dedicated to advancing the quality of life of women with pelvic floor disorders through comprehensive clinical care, education, and research into prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Our team of highly trained urogynecologists and practitioners offer a full spectrum of individualized and innovative care through the Women’s Center for Bladder and Pelvic Health at Magee-Womens Hospital of the UPMC, including:

  • Clinical services for women with urinary and fecal incontinence, as well as pelvic organ prolapse
  • Comprehensive consultations along with onsite cystoscopy, multichannel urodynamics, endoanal ultrasonography and manometry
  • Treatment options span the full spectrum of pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation (offered by certified pelvic floor physical therapists), pessaries, pharmaceuticals, Botox injections, periurethral bulking agents, peripheral and sacral neuromodulation for urinary and fecal incontinence, and complex minimally invasive reconstructive pelvic surgery.

Additionally, our patients have the opportunity to enjoy access to investigational pharmaceuticals, behavioral interventions and surgical procedure under the supervision of the local human investigation committee and National Institutes of Health data safety and monitoring boards.

Dedicated to the translation of evidence into clinical practice, the Urogynecology Research Program has developed a robust portfolio comprising of randomized clinical trials, outcomes studies after surgical interventions, prospective studies of the psychosocial impact of prolapse and incontinence and translational laboratory projects (animal model and biomechanical).  The focus of our investigative efforts includes prevention, diagnosis and treatment of childbirth trauma, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence. Each member of our faculty actively contributes to ongoing research projects and scholarly publications and also plays a key role in the education of fellows, residents and medical students who rotate through the inpatient service and outpatient offices. Faculty participate in community outreach lectures and organized CME opportunities as well.

Academically, the division offers an enriching set of training experiences and critical mentorship through the residency and fellowship programs. In addition to clinical rotations, the curriculum for residents includes weekly didactic sessions and conferences, as well as an opportunity for a 6 week to 1-year rotation in our basic science laboratory under the direction of Dr. Pamela Moalli. The fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh is designed as a three-year curriculum for individuals who have completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology or urology. The environment is designed to be a nurturing one in which each fellow is allowed to take advantage of our well-developed infrastructure to perform clinical outcomes based research or basic science (laboratory) research.
